Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
BPH is a medical term for an enlarged prostate; a non-cancerous growth of the prostate that occurs as men age. About one-half of men with an enlarged prostate will need treatment.
What are the symptoms?
Difficulty urinating or a weak urinary stream
Stopping and starting during urination
Incomplete emptying of the bladder
Frequent urination, especially at night
Blood in urine
Treatment & Approach
Treatment depends on the severity of symptoms. If symptoms are mild, many physicians recommend watchful waiting, which means regular examinations for evaluation. Moderate symptoms may require drug
treatment, while severe symptoms may require surgery.
