Hematuria

Hematuria

Blood seen in the urine on analysis (microscopic hematuria) or by the patient (gross hematuria). Hematuria can be associated with several urological disorders such as, trauma, UTI, kidney stone or possibly cancer. Further evaluation by a urologist is required when hematuria is found. Many patients do not have an identifiable source for hematuria, however it is important to rule out these diagnosis.

Some tests include:

  • Urinalysis to see if hematuria is present in urine
  • Urine Cytology to see if microscopic abnormal cells are present in urine
  • Cystoscopy to evaluate your bladder
  • CT scan/Renal Ultrasound to evaluate your kidneys and bladder

Treatment options:

Treatment options vary depending on the cause of the hematuria.
